Assertiveness Skills

I developed this workshop a number of years ago and have delivered it to a broad range of people from managers to call centre staff. The change in people's assertiveness is both immediate and dramatic, whether this involves becoming more assertive or actually toning down your style

At the end of this workshop, you will have developed the knowledge and the skills to:

  • Identify your personal blockages preventing you from being assertive.
  • Develop assertive communication skills in order to create a climate of trust and comfortable rapport in all interactions.
  • Gain confidence and effectively handle conflict, criticism and other challenging situations.
  • Deal with aggressive or submissive behaviour.
  • Be able to select in a conscious and informed manner, the most appropriate style of response in interpersonal communication.
  • Use a range of assertiveness techniques in a variety of settings

It's a shame that the word "assertive" has so many negative connotations. No-one ever volunteers for an assertiveness course, yet it is one of the programmes that every attendee will take something away from and then quickly implement.
